Police in Galkayo recently arrested a woman who was allegedly pretending to be a man. The individual was going by the Somali male name Deeq Abdullahi Aden when in fact the police discovered that their real name was the Deeqa Abdullahi Aden, a biological female.

The police stated that the individual had been living in the city for a while, living life as a man and had also engaged in relations with various women. At the time of arrest, Deeq was carrying a weapon. The individual stated that they were carrying a weapon for self-defense purposes, in order to protect their shop.

The police stated that they determined the gender of the individual by carrying out a physical examination. The individual also confirmed the fact that they are biologically female.

It is not clear what the official charges against the individual are at this time.
