On the 28th of January, Galmudug state minister for the Ministry of Transportation and Aviation, Farhiya Abdi Mohamed, was shot dead in Mogadishu. Al Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the murder.
The regional President of Galmudug state, Ahmed Abdi Karie “Qoorqoor”, released a statement in which he sent his condolences to the family and relatives of the late minister.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s new war on terrorism in Somalia has a particular focus on the state of Galmudug, as part of the ongoing Hiraan-Hirshabelle-Galmudug offensives.
The president’s new war on terrorism will involve increased military operations in the state of Galmudug, as well as a focus on cutting off the funding and resources of terrorist groups operating in the region.
No arrests have been made in connection to the murder of the late minister.
