On the 27th January, reports surfaced on local media stating that an 8-year-old girl was raped and murdered in an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp located in the Lower Shabelle region of the South West State in Somalia.
The young girl, who remains unidentified, was found hanged.
The suspect, who has been identified as Bashir Mohamed Qassim, is said to be in his early 20s and has been arrested and is currently awaiting trial.
Police spokesperson Sadiq Adan Doodishe stated at a press conference that the suspect is currently being held at the CID headquarters in Mogadishu in order for the case to be fully investigated.
