Officers in Garowe, Puntland have allegedly arrested and tortured one of their own for investigating a rape case.

According to reports, police officer Deggan Mohamed was investigating a rape case that involved a young woman and nine men when she was urged by colleagues to step away from the case. It’s said that Deggan refused to stop her investigation, which led to her being arrested and tortured for not following orders.

Details surrounding this case remain unclear as there aren’t many factual news articles about it, but there seem to be a number of social media posts in Somali amplifying the story.

At the time of writing, the Puntland Police Force has yet to comment on this case.
