A military court in Mogadishu, Somalia has sentenced the wife of an Islamic State (IS/Daesh) leader to eight years in jail for aiding in financial transactions for the terror group, government news agency SONNA stated.
The woman, identified as Fartun Abdirashid Hussein, was arrested on March 23rd, 2022 in Mogadishu.
IS first appeared in Somalia in 2015 and has since carried out numerous attacks against civilians and military targets. The group has been mainly active in the country’s Puntland region.
In 2016, the Somali government declared a state of emergency in Puntland, and since then has been working to improve the security situation and prevent the group from establishing a stronger foothold.
